Civics 8
Instructor: Ms. Vargas

Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! †My name is Ms. Crystal Vargas and I am the new 8th Grade Civics teacher here at Lewis F. Cole Middle School. †After 10 years of teaching at the elementary and high school level, I am excited to begin a new journey in the Fort Lee school district. †As a student, I earned my bachelorís degree at Rutgers University and earned a masterís degree in Elementary Education at The College of New Jersey. †Teaching has always been my passion and I am excited to bring my love for learning into a new classroom. †In addition to teaching, I am also the head Varsity Softball coach at my alma mater, Marist High School, and am a professional percussionist. ††

My responsibility as an educator is to offer your child the tools necessary to become successful in and out of the classroom. †While maintaining a safe learning environment, my mission is to inspire students to not only think critically, but to become responsible and active members of society. †By creating a variety of lessons that are engaging for all students, you will find that we will bring Civics to life! †††

As stated in the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS), Civics prepares students to be informed, active, and responsible citizens in the American democratic republic. †Students will learn about events, philosophies, key personalities and values that have shaped our government.

In order to provide students with the best opportunity for success, I encourage frequent communication with parents/guardians and students. †Feel free to give me a call or send an email with your questions or concerns at any point during the school year. With your support, our students will do great things.

I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year!

Sincerely,

Ms. Vargas †
